Who is Scuffletown?

Scuffletown is an acoustic duo featuring singer/songwriter Marc Carraway and multi-instrumentalist John Whitlow. This duo joined forces in early 2000 and has been featured at festivals and concerts settings throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

Carraway is a seasoned musician who has toured internationally and previously released three recordings on the Waterbound label. Bluegrass Unlimited stated that "Carraway has a powerful voice and a true knack for songwriting." The Mary Washington Bullet called Carraway "one of this region's stellar performers." Carraway has been featured at folk music festivals and songwriting workshops throughout the eastern United States.

Carraway is joined by local favorite John Whitlow. Whitlow has spent most of his career playing with some of the region's well known singer/songwriters and is known as one of the most outstanding harmonica players in this region. He has made guest appearances the past year in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington and throughout the state of Virginia. John Hill, founder of WNRN's Acoustic Sunrise describes his playing "in the world class category which makes for wonderful blend with Carraway's rich and soulful voice." Hill also describes the duo as "one of the region's true musical gems."

Scuffletown released their first CD in the spring of 2001 entitled "Live at the Speakeasy." Winnie Richardson, WVLS Radio in Monterey, Virginia states, "This release is a CD that sings with a spontaneous love of life. It is one of those great recordings to take on the road, or just sit back with and enjoy." Scuffletown recently released their second recording entitled "Roads" which is receiving airplay and critical support throughout this region of the country.

Teresa Annas, Music and Arts writer for the Virginian Pilot, states "Scuffletown is one of those good-time duos with true range. They go down as smooth as a mug of cold suds on a Saturday night."
